ASYA: (aside) Very pity. I lost the young man!
GULCHOHRA: Father, I’m too young to marry.
SULTAN BAY: It is high time for you. You aren't à child, are you? You know and under stand everything. I marry you to à young man, he is à merchant, and has much riches and à lot of money...
GULCHOHRA: Father, do not be angry, I’ll not marry.

SULTAN BAY:

(kindly) There now, don’t be silly. I promised the matchmaker and he went away.

ASYA: (aside) Thank God, the guy was à matchmaker.
GULCHOHRA: No, father, I don’t want to marry.
SULTAN BAY: Well, well, don’t be affected. I know that you are happy in the depth of your heart.
GULCHOHRA: No, father, it's my true word. I don’t want to marry. You can kill me if you want, but don’t marry me off.
SULTAN BAY: I see you speak seriously. (Íå shouts loudly), what silly words are you saying? How do you dare to say that you don’t want to marry? Do you want to stay and to grow old in this house?
GULCHOHRA: (cries) I don’t want to marry.
SULTAN BAY: (more loudly) For God' s sake, don’t be òàñÈ How do you dare to speak? Your father wants to marry you, your duty is to obey him.
ASYA: Certainly, Gulchohra, what father says, you must listen to him. If he marries you, your duty is to obey him. So there must not be any refusal.
GULCHOHRA: Father, kill me, but don’t marry me off.
ASYA: How do you dare to speak so?
SULTAN BAY: I ask you, don’t be stupid! I marry you to çèñÜ à man, who can be found no more and nowhere. What do you think?
GULCHOHRA: You marry off Asya, and let me stay at home.
SULTAN BAY: Don’t speak nonsense. If somebody wants to marry Asya, I’ll marry her off, too. You are wanted, so I must marry you off first.
ASYA: Surely, it must be so.
GULCHOHRA: I don’t want to marry.
SULTAN BAY: It's not your business. You can’t do that. You' ll marry. Your father orders, so you must do that. If you don’t obey, I’ll nail your ears to the wall.
Gulchohra cries... silence. Sultan bay walks back and forth angrily. After some time he says softly.
